Our practice nurses provide a wide range of services including diabetic, heart disease and
asthma clinics, immunizations and travel vaccinations/advice, dressings, cervical smears,
ear syringing, wart/verrucca clinics, blood pressure monitoring and blood tests. They can also
advise on a variety of health related issues such as dietary advice, weight reduction and
smoking cessation.
Fiona Smith - N.A.P., Cert in Health and Social Care, Cert in Clinical Skills for Healthcare
Workers.
Fiona is our health care assistant and is trained to carry out blood tests, blood pressure checks
and ECGs.

Our district nursing team attached to the surgery covers all aspects of nursing care in the home, as well as providing support for patients and their carers. They can advise on, and provide various types of equipment and aids, e.g. walking frames, continence products.

| RECEPTIONISTS |
| Our reception staff have a demanding job and their aim is to provide an efficient and friendly service. They have been trained to obtain essential information so that the doctors can assess the urgency of any request and they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses. |

| COMMUNITY MIDWIFE |

Our community midwife holds an ante-natal clinic at Muirhead Medical Centre, Tuesday 2pm – 4.30pm and can provide care in pregnancy, and at home during the first 10 days after the baby is born. |

| PODIATRY SERVICES (CHIROPODY) |
| Podiatry appointments are offered at the practice by a state registered podiatrist. Patients with a foot or lower limb problem must first be seen by a doctor, nurse or other health professional who will refer them to the service. The podiatrist will then carry out a thorough assessment of your symptoms before formulating a treatment plan and proceeding with any treatment. |

Health Visitors/Public Health Nurses have a role in health promotion and health education with all age groups and are skilled in assessing and offering information on a wide range of health issues working closely with all members of the Primary Health Care Team within your GP surgery. They do not wear a uniform but do carry an identification badge, which shows their name, title and photograph. Patient’s are encouraged to seek identification.
Health Visitors/Public Health Nurses core working hours are Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. An answer machine service is available and messages are checked twice daily during working hours. They will arrange to see you at a suitable time and place e.g. your home, GP surgery, local clinic. They may be contacted by telephoning 01382 580779 or 01382 740155 (answering machine). |
