Our reception staff have a demanding job and their aim is to provide an efficient and friendly service. They have been trained to obtain essential information so that the doctors can assess the urgency of any request and they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.

The Practice Manager, Mrs Jane Bruce M.B.A., M.I.H.M., is responsible for the management and administration of the practice and the staff. She is happy to answer any queries you may have about the practice.

PRACTICE NURSES
Our practice nurses provide a wide range of services including diabetic, heart disease and asthma clinics, immunisations and travel vaccinations/advice, dressings, cervical smears, ear syringing, wart/verrucca clinics, blood pressure monitoring and blood tests. They can also advise on a variety of health related issues such as dietary advice, weight reduction and smoking cessation.

DISTRICT NURSES

Our district nursing team attached to the surgery covers all aspects of nursing care in the home, as well as providing support for patients and their carers. They can advise on, and provide various types of equipment and aids, e.g.: walking frames, continence products. They are based within Muirhead Medical Centre and may be contacted by telephoning 01382 580551.

Health Visitors/Public Health Nurses have a role in health promotion and health education with all age groups and are skilled in assessing and offering information on a wide range of health issues working closely with all members of the Primary Health Care Team within your GP surgery. They do not wear a uniform but do carry an identification badge, which shows their Name, Title and Photograph.

Clients are encouraged to seek identification. Health Visitors/Public Health Nurses core working hours are Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. An answer machine service is available and messages are checked twice daily during working hours. They will arrange to see you at a suitable time and place e.g. your home, GP surgery, local clinic. Our practice pharmacist works closely with the doctors to address areas of prescribing concern. You may be invited to attend an appointment with Amanda to discuss your medication.

COMMUNITY MIDWIFE
RUTH BRAND – BSc, (Hons) RM, RGN

Our community midwife holds an ante-natal clinic at Muirhead Medical Centre, Tuesday 2pm – 4.30pm and can provide care in pregnancy, and at home during the first 10 days after the baby is born.
